Information Security Policy
When creating content for distribution, we need to keep three issues in the front of our minds: child protection considerations, high-risk locations, and consistency of messaging. In order to safeguard the children and house parents we serve, please observe the following guidelines to ensure adequate discretion is maintained in all social media posts, emails, or website references.
*Because The Boaz Project has been called to work in difficult nations and we take the security of our partners and the children they serve seriously, we do not share their identifying information, including locations.
Identifying Information
To address child protection issues, please never use more than two of the following pieces of identifying information:
1) the child or caregiver’s name- use first names only
2) the name of the home where they live
3) The name of the country where the subject resides
Posting Photographs
Keep the following considerations in mind before posting any photographs to the internet:
Conform—Know the laws for the country where you’re photographing and be careful to obey them.
Consent—Seek permission from the photo or story’s subject or his guardian. When this is not possible, at least use your best judgement as to what their input is likely to be and respect it.
Conservative—Make sure all pictures are appropriate.
Confidential—Do not post anything that reveals a child’s identity or location (beyond nation or large city). In other words, use only a first name or a fictitious name. Do not include street signs, known landmarks, or other hints to the child’s whereabouts.
Convey-Be certain your portrayal represents the actual situation, not exaggerating or misconstruing the situation for sensationalism. Work to focus on the positives of a culture or person, as well as God’s redemptive work in a situation.
Context-No one wants to be photographed by a random stranger. Be certain to first get to know your subject before creating a post about him or her.
Consider-Is this something I would want portrayed of me? Is this something I would feel comfortable having publicized about my child?
Talking Principles
In terms of consistency, please uphold the following principles:
You are free to share a post created by The Boaz Project on their account. If you add any comments, please be certain they adhere to these policies.
The Boaz Project does not “help” our partners. They are qualified, godly adults who are competent to care for the children in their communities. Rather, we partner with them, each playing our role to care for orphans cooperatively.
Our top priorities are 1) that the children in our care come to know Christ, 2) That they are able to attach to a safe and nurturing adult, and 3) that they are offered an education as a path out of poverty.
Our primary hope is placed in Jesus. All other forms of assistance are secondary.
As a 501(c)3 organization, The Boaz Project cannot engage in political topics. Please do not make any posts associated with the organization that can be taken as a political statement.
Never speak of a country's government, culture, or religion in a negative way.
Do not mention countries, people, or homes by name.
